Fully Alive in 2025

Fully Alive in 2025: Embracing God's Renewal

As we step into a new year, there's an undeniable sense of anticipation in the air. What if this year could be different? What if 2025 could be the year we truly come alive in every aspect of our lives?

The number 25 holds special significance in Hebrew tradition, representing the goodness of God. It's a combination of 20 (redemption) and 5 (grace), symbolizing multiplied grace. This year, we're invited to expect grace upon grace upon grace – a year of unprecedented divine favor and renewal.

Throughout scripture, we see God's passion for making things new. From the promise of a new heaven and earth to the new covenant we live under today, newness is a recurring theme in God's interaction with humanity. But perhaps the most profound "new" thing God offers is the opportunity for us to become new creations in Christ.

Isaiah 43:19 declares, "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." This powerful promise reminds us that God can bring life and provision even in the most barren and challenging circumstances of our lives. No situation is too dire, no wilderness too wild, for God to create a path forward.

To fully embrace this newness, we're called to be "fully alive" in three key areas: spirit, soul, and body.

Spiritually, we need to cultivate a deep connection with God. This involves being born again, walking in sanctification, and allowing ourselves to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. It's about letting our spiritual life overflow, impacting those around us with God's love and power.

Our soul – encompassing our mind, will, and emotions – also needs renewal. We must actively engage in the process of renewing our minds, taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Strengthening our will through prayer and developing emotional intelligence are crucial aspects of soul care. Importantly, we shouldn't neglect the simple act of laughter, which can be like medicine to our souls.

The body, often overlooked in spiritual discussions, is equally important. As temples of the Holy Spirit, we're called to steward our physical health wisely. This involves being mindful of what we consume, engaging in regular exercise, and treating our bodies with the respect due to a holy dwelling place of God.

Beyond these personal areas, we're encouraged to come alive relationally. This means deepening our connection with God and fostering authentic, transparent relationships with others. It's about creating spaces where we can be vulnerable, accountable, and supportive of one another's spiritual journeys.

Economically, we're challenged to practice biblical stewardship, trusting in God's provision while being generous with what we've been given. Deuteronomy 8:18 reminds us that it's God who gives us the power to create wealth, and Malachi 3:10 invites us to test God in this area, promising abundant blessings when we honor Him with our finances.

However, embracing this new life requires a willingness to change. Jesus taught that new wine can't be put into old wineskins – a powerful metaphor for the renewal process. We must be willing to be stretched, softened, and reshaped by God's Word and Spirit to contain the new things He wants to pour into our lives.

The challenge lies in our natural resistance to change. We often prefer the familiar, even if it's not serving us well. As the saying goes, "No one after drinking old wine immediately desires new wine, for they say, 'The old is better.'" But clinging to the old ways while expecting new results is, as Einstein allegedly said, the definition of insanity.

So how do we practically step into this "fully alive" life in 2025? Here are some suggestions:

1. Establish a daily encounter with God. Make spending time in prayer and scripture a non-negotiable part of your routine.

2. Set clear spiritual goals for the year. What areas of growth are you targeting?

3. Consider starting the year with a fast. This could be a traditional food fast or giving up something that costs you to create space for more of God.

4. Be willing to do things differently. Identify areas where you've been stuck and courageously try new approaches.

5. Cultivate community. Surround yourself with people who will encourage your spiritual growth and hold you accountable.

6. Take care of your physical health. Honor God with your body through wise eating and exercise habits.

7. Practice generosity. Look for opportunities to bless others and participate in God's economy of abundance.

Remember, while God invites us into this new life, He won't force it upon us. James 4:8 encourages us, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." The initiative is ours to take, but God faithfully meets us and empowers us in the process.

As we embark on this journey of becoming fully alive in 2025, let's hold onto the truth that God desires for us to be "saved thoroughly and completely, not just barely saved." He longs for us to walk daily in the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

This year holds immense potential for spiritual growth, relational depth, and personal transformation. The question is, will we have the courage to step out of our comfort zones and into the fullness of life God is offering?

May 2025 be the year we truly come alive – spirit, soul, and body – experiencing the multiplied grace and goodness of God like never before. The invitation is extended; the choice is ours. Let's make it count.
